Master Bedroom Furniture Placement

Master%20Bedroom.jpg

I decided to take a break from the full model and do some work on individual rooms. I am drawing these as separate models so they will be more manageable (my current computer is lacking horsepower).

The image above shows the master bedroom interior complete with our actual furniture (drawn with Sketchup of course). I made two of the walls transparent so the room could be viewed from eye-level. The doorways from left to right are as follows: 1. entry to master sitting room, 2. exit from bedroom to hallway, 3. entry to master bathroom. This will all make more sense if you view the flat floor plan (the full plan set can be viewed here). Below is a view from above.

Sketchup Update

house.jpg

Hello All. I'm back! I made lots of progress with Sketchup During the month of May but got busy with work and put it aside. The model I had been working on (shown in the past few entries) reached a level of detail that my poor five-your-old Mac just couldn't handle. I started from scratch to create the view shown above. This version does not have any interior details.

First Floor Interior Walls

I learned a new trick! To create the above sketch, I imported the CAD drawing of the floor plan (dfx file) into Sketchup and used it as a template to create the interior walls. I placed the CAD drawing on a separate layer in Sketchup, traced over the walls, and used the push-pull tool to raise the walls from the 2D floor plan.

Roof Sketch

Sometimes you just need to go back to basics.

As I progressed with the model I encountered things that were not quit right—things not aligning as they should. Most of the time is was related to the pitch of the roof not being correct.

I decided to make a new sketch just to practice setting angles, roof pitch, etc. In this drawing I started with a basic cube  and carved out the shape of the house—no interior details (much quicker this way). Click here to see perspective drawing as viewed from the front left.

Second Floor Interior Walls

I took a break from modeling the exterior and did some work on inside. The view shown above is the second floor with the roof removed to expose the interior walls (just learned how to use layers in Sketchup, the roof is now on separate, hidden layer). You can take a look at the 2D plans by following this link (scroll to bottom to see the floor plans). Below is a break down of the rooms shown in this view.
